  • Hometown: Hamilton, Ohio
  • Alma Mater: University of Cincinnati (BA, 1950)
  • After graduating from Hamilton HS (OH) in 1945, he went off to play at Cincinnati for head coach Ray Farnham
    • Just a few games into the 1945-46 season, Baker left UC to serve in the US Army
    • Returned to school after 18 months and played three seasons for Farnham and the Bearcats
    • Inducted into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996
  • Started coaching career at the prep level, working at Lebanon HS, Wyoming HS and Miamisburg HS (all in Ohio)
    • Inducted into the Lebanon HS (Warren County, OH) Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007
  • Hired in 1959 to be an assistant coach at alma mater Cincinnati under head coach George Smith
  • Took over as head coach in 1965, going 125-60 over seven seasons at the helm
    • Went to the 1966 Sweet Sixteen in his first season and the NIT in 1970
  • Resigned at UC in 1972 and a year later became the head coach at rival Xavier
    • In six seasons at XU, Baker went 70-89 and failed to reach the postseason
  • After his coaching career, Baker served as a board member and as executive director of the non-profit Greater Cincinnati Golf Association
