The Cybertruck has had its ups and downs since it launched. While the car had a lot of hype surrounding it, fans of Tesla and the Cybertruck in Germany are not going to be able to buy one. The unexpected reason behind this is shocking to say the least. The Cybertruck had some serious claims behind it via the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk. Claims that were of no importance to the consumer but Musk chose to make them anyway. After its release, the Cybertruck was seen as the future of the automotive sector, but production and quality control issues have surfaced, leading to a whole new world of problems.

Why was the Cybertruck so hyped up before it released?

The emergence of Tesla and the EV sector as a whole was evidence that the world was willing to accept the next step in the automotive evolution. The world embraced Tesla and the EV as the future of the car. And for a while, it was good. Once Elon Musk had some success behind the Tesla name, he could focus his energy on his next “baby”, the Cybertruck.

The Cybertruck was supposed to bring Tesla and the large EV into the truck market. A large part of the global population chooses to buy a truck as opposed to a normal four door sedan. The Cybertruck released in the US to a mixture of interest. Tesla had some dominance, especially in the US market, in the EV market and they were attempting something very dangerous, challenging the truck and 4×4 makers of the world.

And one must understand that the interest in Tesla and the Cybertruck was not limited to the US. Tesla hosted events in China to huge fan fair, despite the truck not being available for sale in China. The Asian market has some innovation taking place that will surely worry Tesla and Musk. Now the German fans of Tesla are left without the ability to even consider buying a Cybertruck because of the tight regulations on European roads.

Why cant German fans of Tesla buy a Cybertruck for the German roads?

That is a very important question with an even more important answer. The problems that the Cybertruck had when it released to the public in the US was just the beginning of the headache for Musk. The regulations in Germany for cars that are allowed on their roads are different to the United States. The roads in Europe are much smaller and the cities more densely populated.

This means that there are certain size and weight regulations in Germany that prevent the sale of the Cybertruck. The authorities have stated the the Cybertruck is too large and heavy for European roads. They also make mention of the sharp edges on the Cybertruck that give it that distinctive design. They claim the sharp edges and weight pose a threat to pedestrians and other drivers.

It must be noted that the German authorities are not alone in their observations and hesitance. The entire European Union follow the same regulations for car sales as most of Europe is the same as far as city size and population density. The Cybertruck does not meet the homologation regulations set out by the EU. Not to mention the resale clause that Tesla has on each Cybertruck.

Can and will Tesla adjust the Cybertruck for the roads of Germany and Europe?

The answer to that question only Tesla and Elon Musk knows. But the odds are not good. With the world’s automotive manufacturers investing their time and resources into the next step in the automotive evolution, Tesla and their fans in Germany are up a creek without a paddle. Without the Cybertruck being adjusted to meet the regulations in Germany and Europe, which we cannot see them doing any time soon, the Cybertruck will remain a rarity on the roads of Europe. They even stopped taking pre-orders from European customers in 2022.
