Elon Musk has always been one for controversy. Even before his recent position in Donald Trump’s administration, even before he bought Twitter or X, he was doing crazy stuff like sending a car into space. After posting on what was then Twitter, and asking his fans what he should put in the latest SpaceX rocket, he ended up going for a car. And not just any car, his own personal Tesla Roadster that he used to drive to work in Austin, Texas everyday. Along with a few other items that had the world giggling, the car has now travelled more than a billion miles.
Is this just another distraction by Musk and Tesla?
Elon Musk has always had an understanding of what a large majority of the public are interested in. His beginnings at PayPal was evidence that he had the ability to foresee a need, and find a solution to it. Same thing can be said about SpaceX. The exploration into space has mostly been led by one name, NASA. So the appeal that he conceived from SpaceX was to offer another option. And it worked.
Love or hate him, he has overseen projects that have remarkable innovation in them and have the potential to move the human race forward. The satellite network that SpaceX has is vast. So much so that the end effect is Elon Musk becoming the richest man in history. You only see yourself as the hero for so long, before you become the villain.
One man with that much power and sway over global policy makers is a problem that society has always knew would come. And the evidence to suggest a change is nowhere to found, Musk is set on a new course that have many puzzled. SpaceX and Tesla have done so much for him, now his concerns seem to be more political than ever.
What makes this new discovery so shocking, even for Musk?
What truly makes this scenario unique is that a website was set up to track the cars physical location in space. And after finding a loop in the wording of the Tesla’s warranty, the shocking discovery was made. Technically the Roadster is still under warranty, because it’s flying and not driving. And yes technically the parts are not being eroded by usage. That’s what has surprised the infamous South African.
One must ask if this being pointed out is merely a distraction from Musk’s other problems? With the approach of the new Tesla Roadster, is this simply a marketing scheme to get people excited? To be honest, you can’t really blame him for trying to divert the public’s attention. He has gotten some serious blowback from the American public recently.
Donald Trump’s tariffs have had a momentous effect on all markets and manufacturers. So much so that now even his “best buddy” Musk has intervened to attempt to get the president to ease off the tariff throttle, so to speak. And the power that SpaceX and Tesla have in the US markets means that he will at least listen, maybe. One can never be certain in this political climate.
Will the new positive for Musk lead to a change of fortunes for Tesla?
The Roadster is currently travelling more than 11,000 mph and is still headed for Mars. Musk decided to include a few novelty items in the car to accompany the mannequin behind the steering wheel. It must be said that there is still some innovation happening at Tesla in Musk’s absence, but the question remains, if Musk were to leave his position in the Department of Government Efficiency and turn his attention back to Tesla and SpaceX, can the companies make a return to the top of their respective sectors? The answer remains to be given.
