What a pleasant surprise, because this time around, it is not the “power” countries that are running with this. Not China or America. It is good to see other nations push towards these innovations and global changes to promote sustainability. Do not get me wrong; there is nothing wrong with China or America coming up with new inventions, but it is good to see that if the rest of the world can master these ideas, then we are looking at a global win and progress. Whenever a country is pushing boundaries silently, it changes everything. It changes the whole narrative, and the change is good, by the way.

Different from China, the country is not known or identified as an automotive development nation

This country is commonly known for its richness in culture, different beliefs and traditions, and has nothing to do with expansions and developments in the automotive industry. However, something is cooking; something is changing. I do not even think brands like Tesla have a market there because it has never shown interest in electric vehicles.

However, it is as if the nation woke up one day and shouted “green!”  It is moving with the times, technologically and environmentally. There is a gradual growth, a still movement that is not making crazy headlines on the news like other brands and countries like China and America. Okay, I am done with the suspense, but this nation, you will not believe it.

India is knocking on those hydrogen-powered vehicles’ doors

We are finally here, and yes, India is trying to understand how hydrogen-powered vehicles will help it reach its emissions targets. It seems like it is on the right track. I will tell you why. So, 8.4% has contributed to the carbon emissions released by just the transport sector. In learning that India, particularly in the Kerala state, has decided to register its first hydrogen car in the country.

A hand of applause for Asia. The government of India is not speculating; it has decided and is taking initiative to make this a reality because it is real, raw, and happening. The administration of Kerala is ensuring that it does enough research and understands how to make this work, especially for vehicles of a larger size like trucks, buses and boats. Hydrogen is still dominating, with companies like Kawasaki unveiling a hydrogen project in 2030.

Here are the key details of why this is going to work and stimulate the future

  • This is India, not China, and it has taken a bold move to reduce emissions.
  • The nation is not only focused on small cars but also wants to empower trucks, buses, and boats with hydrogen.
  • The government of India, in Kerala state, is fully supportive, and this makes the job easier.
  • There is a public-private partnership driving innovation.
  • Kerala is already a leader in electric vehicles in India, making nationwide adoption easier.
  • The transport secretary of  Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is willing to attend international events to learn more from other nations that understand this transportation niche.

Countries like China are somehow shifting the narrative by “destroying every hydrogen car in the world”, but that does not mean the fuel resource is irrelevant. Instead, it is clean and emits water, making it the perfect fuel resource for cars. However, we do not want to ignore some challenges that India will have to face, understand, and try to build solutions for. For example, infrastructure gaps, high production costs, and technological maturity. This is not an Indian problem but a global issue, and there is some sort of hope that once it is figured out, then India will have more confidence in this new norm of theirs.
