Tobin Anderson hired as head coach at Fairleigh Dickinson

Fairleigh Dickinson announced Tuesday the hiring of Tobin Anderson as the school’s new head men’s basketball coach. Anderson has been the head coach at D-II St. Thomas Aquinas – located less than 15 miles from the FDU campus – for the last nine years and has led the Spartans to seven-straight NCAA Tournaments.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Tobin to FDU as the head men’s basketball coach,” said AD Bradford Hurlbut. “From the beginning of our search, he was our guy and we are ecstatic that he is joining the Knights Family! What stood out to us foremost is Tobin’s ability to build sustained championship level programs the right way. His coaching record speaks for itself and he does a terrific job of developing his student-athletes academically, athletically and socially. We look forward to welcoming Jodi, Bryce and Alexa to the banks on the Hackensack this Thursday!”

This is the first D-I opportunity for Anderson, who is an accomplished head coach with 394 wins at the D-II and D-III levels. In addition to his time at STAC, he also coached at Clarkson (NY) and Hamilton College (NY). Before getting the Aquinas job in 2013, he spent two years at Siena as an assistant under Mitch Buonaguro.

FDU moved on from head coach Greg Herenda last month after nine seasons. The Knights went to the NCAA Tournament twice under Herenda, most recently in 2019.
