  • Started his coaching career as an assistant at various schools along the East Coast, beginning with one season at D-II NYIT
  • Spent two years at Iona (under Jim Valvano), one each at Davidson (under Dave Pritchett) and St. John’s (under Lou Carnesecca), two at Maryland (under Lefty Driesell), one at Virginia Tech (under Charles Moir) and four more with Valvano at NC State
  • Became a head coach in 1986, leading the Lamar Cardinals to a 34-26 record over two years at the helm
  • Left in 1988 to become the head coach at Drake, but went just 23-29 in two years there
  • Worked as an assistant under Joe Harrington for four seasons at Colorado and Bob Wenzel at Rutgers for three
  • Hired to be the head coach at Sacramento State in 1997, staying in that role for three seasons
    • Compiled an overall record of just 13-66, finished well below .500 each year
  • Stayed in Sacramento for most of the next decade, initially working as a television broadcaster for the Sacramento Kings
    • He also spent several seasons as an assistant with the Sacramento Kings of the WNBA
