- Alma Mater: Merrimack College (BS, 1989)
- Lettered in basketball and baseball at Oxford HS (MA) before going on to Merrimack College in North Andover, MA
- Played one season at Merrimack and then spent one season as a student assistant under Bert Hammel
- During his final two years of undergrad, he worked as an assistant at nearby Cambridge Rindge and Latin School
- Became a full-time assistant at Merrimack after graduating in 1989, spending five seasons on the staff there
- Spent eight years working on the staff of head coach Pete Gillen, four at Providence and four at Virginia
- Went 80-38 in four seasons as the head coach at the College of Charleston
- Won two SoCon regular season titles and led the Cougars to the NIT in 2003
- Spent three seasons working under Jamie Dixon at Pittsburgh, first as an assistant and then as his associate head coach
- Got another shot at head coaching in April 2010 when he was hired to take over at Marshall
- Went 67-67 overall, winning 21+ games in each of his first two years but failing to win more than 13 in the final two
- Worked on television with ESPN and Comcast during the 2006-07 season after being let go by Marshall
- Hired by Brian Gregory to work as an assistant at Georgia Tech for two seasons 2014-16
- Rejoined Dixon in 2016, spending one season as a special assistant at Dixon’s new school: TCU
- Again hired by Gregory in 2017, this time as an assistant coach at South Florida; elevated to associate head coach in 2020
- In June 2021, the University announced that an independent review into the Bulls’ men’s basketball program had found that Herrion had “committed misconduct in violation of university policy stemming from inappropriate comments made to student-athletes” and as a result, his contract was not renewed
- Older brother, Bill Herrion, is the current head coach at New Hampshire, formerly at East Carolina and Drexel
