Tony Jasick fired after seven seasons at Jacksonville

A job has opened in the Atlantic Sun, as Jacksonville head coach Tony Jasick was fired Monday after seven seasons at the school. He was 95-123 overall during his tenure and reached the postseason just once (2017 CIT).

“First I want to thank Tony for his many years of service to this program, these young men and to this University,” AD Alex Ricker-Gilbert said in a release. “While the results on the floor in the recent past have been disappointing, I remain as excited as ever about the bright future of this program. What we have in front of us is an opportunity to embrace our role as Jacksonville’s University, to build upon the strong foundation of our rich basketball history.”

The Dolphins were 11-13 in 2020-21 and while that is a best win percentage the program has had in the last four years, it was yet another season at the bottom of the A-Sun standings. Jasick was hired in 2014 after spending the previous nine years (three as head coach) at IPFW.

“I hope the next head coach of our program will grow into a leadership role,” Ricker-Gilbert continued, “not just of his or her program but within the department and greater campus community. Creating a thriving basketball program is about much more than winning. One of our core values is ‘foster growth,’ and that requires leadership and mentorship both on the court and off. That’s a priority for us with the next head coach.”
