Travis Steele promoted to head coach at Xavier

Associate head coach Travis Steele, who has been at Xavier since 2008, has been promoted to head coach of the Musketeers. Steele had been Chris Mack‘s associate head coach for the last two seasons and one of his assistants since Mack took over in 2009. The Indiana native was originally hired by Sean Miller as DBO in 2008.

This is the first head coaching gig for Steele, who has been coaching since his undergrad years at Butler. Starting as an assistant at Ben Davis HS in Indianapolis, Steele has also worked at Wabash Valley College, Ohio State and Indiana.

Mack left for Louisville last week after leading the Musketeers to one of their most successful seasons in program history. Several stars from this year’s team will be gone, but Mack built Xavier into a Big East force that is set up for long-term success. Much of that coming on the recruiting trail, led by Steele and staff.
