UAB football coach Bill Clark announces his retirement

After seven years as the head coach at UAB, Bill Clark has announced his retirement. The 53-year old Alabama-native cited health issues as a driving factor for the decision. Clark went 49-26 overall and 35-15 over the last four seasons with the Blazers.

“It’s time,” Clark said in a statement on social media. “Retiring as the UAB head football coach is the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but my future health and well-being depend on it.”

“UAB football, the university and the city of Birmingham mean too much to me,” Clark continued. “My future isn’t completely clear, but I will remain active in causes I hold dear, including the Children’s Harbor football game and the CoachSafely Foundation.”

Clark noted that OC/AHC Bryant Vincent will serve as interim head coach for the time being, but there has been no official announcement from the school about future plans. Vincent has been with the program since 2018, running the offense for two C-USA titles and four bowl games (one cancelled due to COVID).

UAB is entering its final season in Conference USA before moving to the American (AAC) next season with five other current C-USA programs. The Blazers christened a new 47,000-seat stadium, Protective Stadium, last year and went 9-4 including a victory over BYU in the Independence Bowl.
