UTRGV fires Dan Hipsher after just three seasons
Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) has fired head basketball coach Dan Hipsher after three seasons with the Vaqueros. Hipsher’s overall record during his tenure was 27-66 (13-31 WAC).
This was the first year of the new UTRGV program, which was created by a consolidation of two UT-Brownsville and UT-Pan American. Hipsher was the head coach of UT-Pan American from 2013-15 and carried over to the new program this past season.
UTRGV’s program history is that of the Texas-Pan American Broncs program, which transitioned to Division I prior to the 1968-69 season. The program has never appeared in the NCAA Tournament and has made just one NIT appearance in 1981.
Hipsher has a long track record as a college coach, including head coaching stops at Stetson (1993-95) and Akron (1995-2004) and assistant positions under Don Donoher, Stan Heath and Anthony Grant.
