UTSA fires head basketball coach Brooks Thompson

UTSA has fired Brooks Thompson after 10 seasons as the Roadrunners’ head basketball coach. Thompson had been the second longest-tenured head coach in the Conference USA and his ten season tenure is the second longest in UTSA program history.

With a SoCon Tournament title in 2011, Thompson led the Roadrunners into the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in program history. However, the team has had just one winning season since then and recently finished the 2015-16 with a 5-27 (3-15) record.

The program spent one year in the WAC before coming to C-USA three seasons ago, but the Roadrunners’ best record during that four-year span was 14-16 in 2014-15.

Thompson played college basketball at both Texas A&M and Oklahoma State before spending four NBA seasons with five different teams (1994-1998). His previous coaching stops include assistant positions at Oklahoma State and Arizona State, as well as a two-year stint as head coach at Yavapai CC.
