Since it was founded in 1937, the German carmaker Volkswagen has issued over a thousand recalls. Should we be worried? By 2023, more than four million vehicles were recalled due to different reasons and factors. VW is a well-respected automaker, and if you are reading this, it is probably one of your favourite brands; however, just like any other top brand in the automotive industry, mistakes do happen, and all they need to do is take responsibility. Nearly 90,000 Audi models have been recalled because the issue is aligned with causing a risk of fire when the oil leaks.

Recalls are common in the automotive industry, but this one has raised concerns

While recalls are nothing new in the market, this particular one is worrisome because it is not only risking the lives of the car owners but of those around them, say, if something happens, the oil leaks and sets the car on fire while in motion or parked somewhere. After examinations, it has been seen that this issue with VW could be very dangerous. If you are an Audi owner, keep reading to find out if your vehicle is part of the list.

Before we get to the real issue of VW recalling nearly 90,000 Audis over the risk of fire, here is an overview:

  • Who issued the recall? Volkswagen Group of America Inc.
  • The reason for this recall: Loose cylinder head cover screws that may cause oil to leak and trigger a fire.
  • Recall location: United States of America.

The main causes of the Audi recall are fire hazards and oil leaks

As mentioned above about the potential fire risk, if not well checked, we will be talking of another story sooner or later. Volkswagen has communicated that it will send mail from July 8, 2025; in the meantime, owners are advised to park their cars and not use them until they can officially go and get the screws tightened and repaired. Additionally, owners can visit their nearest dealership to get it checked and fixed at no cost.

The two models affected are the 2022-2024 Audi Q5 Quattro and Q5 Sportback Quattro models.

The importance of Audi owners’ reaction

One thing is for certain: VW and Audi do not want their customers to panic. All they need to do is follow the repair rules by visiting a dealership, avoid using the car until it is fixed, and if they need assurance or do not understand something, they can communicate with the Audi customer service. You do not need to wait for the letter in July; you can take action now by checking the VIN number and visiting the NHTSA recall page and booking an inspection if needed.

It could happen that your car is not showing any signs of oil leaks or crackling sounds that could be a warning of a hazardous fire, or perhaps smoke; however, that does not mean it is an excuse for you to think your car is 100% safe. The purpose of this recall is to ensure all cars get the needed attention to ensure that the roads are safe.

VW reported that no injuries have been recorded, and it is also not facing any legal actions or warnings; however, as investigations are still happening, close examinations are being conducted, especially to see if the automaker will take initiative and fix the issues surrounding this recall.

If you own the two models affected, understand that this is not to say VW and Audi have failed, but these are some of the mistakes that the industry faces, and could be a supplier or an engineering issue. For more information about this recall, you can check the 25V-294 recall from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
