  • Played at Kentucky for four seasons under head coach Rick Pitino, where he was a part of the 1996 NCAA Championship team
    • Drafted 19th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks
  • Played ten seasons in the NBA, one with the Knicks, eight with the Celtics, one in Phoenix and then with the Clippers
    • Spent four years in Boston playing for Pitino again; also played for Jeff Van Gundy, Jim O’Brien, John Carroll, Doc Rivers, Mike D’Antoni and Mike Dunleavy
  • Joined Pitino‘s staff at Louisville in 2007 after retiring, working there for three seasons
  • Went back to the NBA in 2010 as an assistant with the Indiana Pacers under Jim O’Brien
  • Hired by Brad Stevens in 2013 to return to Boston as one of his assistants, a position McCarty held for the next five years
  • Returned to his hometown in March 2018 when he was hired to be the new head coach at Evansville
  • Along with his wife, Erin, has two daughters
