The Golden State Warriors have rejected any and all offers for Buddy Hield and Moses Moody. According to an NBA insider, the Warriors have received multiple offers for the two players and have unequivocally turned them down. The Warriors are the only NBA team that has not made any new signings or traded for any new players this offseason. A worrying sign for the fans of San Francisco basketball. However, one might point out that Steve Kerr is a champion as both a player and a coach and certainly knows the game of basketball. So why the radio silence?
The Golden State Warriors are still dealing with the Kuminga saga
The Golden State Warriors have spent the entire offseason embroiled in the Jonathan Kuminga saga. He wants to leave, and the team wants him to leave, so what’s the holdup, you ask? According to reports from several NBA insiders, the issue seems to be the price. Several teams, including the Sacramento Kings, have made significant offers to the Warriors for Jonathan Kuminga, only for Steve Kerr to turn them all down.
That has been the major snag in the Warriors’ offseason thus far. But surely they have some plans to bring in some support for Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. Both players are over the age of 30 and do not have the legs to last an entire season carrying the weight and expectations for the Warriors. New players aside, the Warriors have reportedly turned down offers for two other players that they claim are part of their plans for the long term.
The Warriors turn down deals for Buddy Hield and Moses Moody
A defining characteristic of the Golden State Warriors is their perimeter shooting. The Splash brothers proved to the NBA that you could dominate the league and even win titles by focusing on creating shooting opportunities from beyond the arc. As a result, they have turned down any offers for Hield and Moody, who are both effective shooters from the three-point line.
Buddy Hield arrived in San Francisco in a deal that sent Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks. By breaking up the most effective shooting pair in the NBA, the Warriors needed to ensure that they kept the players who boost their ability to score from the perimeter. As they have yet to bring in any new players so far, the focus has been on the long-term plan of supplying Steph Curry with enough support to make one more run at the NBA title.
NBA insider, Jake Fischer, on The Stein Line, had an inside line to the goings on within the Warriors organization.
“Sources tell The Stein Line, furthermore, that Golden State has refused this summer to even entertain sign-and-trade scenarios that would require it to surrender either Buddy Hield or Moses Moody because of the limited options currently on the roster in terms of proven shooters not named Curry.” – NBA insider, Jake Fischer
There is still time for the Warriors to bring in some support for Curry
While the lack of new players is a worrying trend for the Warriors fans, they have time to bring in some new players to support the veteran trio of Steph Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green. As the season edges closer, the focus for the Warriors has been on keeping the roster intact for the new season. While the NBA will now be streamed on a new ESPN app, the fans and players are itching to get going as this season promises to be the most entertaining in recent memory. Can the Warriors actually make a run for the playoffs this year with no new players?
