Western Carolina coach Larry Hunter steps down

Larry Hunter is stepping down after 13 seasons as the head coach of the Western Carolina Catamounts. Hunter has been coaching since 1971 and has 397 career wins as a Division I head coach.

The Catamounts finished the 2017-18 season at 13-19 (8-10) after being from the SoCon Tournament on Saturday.

WCU athletic director Randy Eaton had this to say in a statement released Sunday: “We are so very grateful and thank Larry for his hard work and dedication to out men’s basketball program during his career in Cullowhee.”

In addition to stints at Western Carolina and Ohio, Hunter was the head coach at Division III Wittenberg for 13 seasons and won a D-III National Championship in 1977.
