Charlotte fires football coach Will Healy after 1-7 start

Charlotte announced on Sunday that head football coach Will Healy had been fired after a 1-7 start to his fourth season with the 49ers. After going 7-6 (5-3) with a Bahamas Bowl loss in his first season, Healy has gone 8-18 (5-11 C-USA) and has missed the postseason.

“We are grateful to Will Healy for the incredible energy and enthusiasm he brought to our program,” said AD Mike Hill. “He made an impact here that will never be forgotten. Sadly, however, our on-field results have not met expectations. Will and his family are special people and we wish them the best.”

Healy was hired in December 2018 after three seasons at FCS Austin Peay, where he turned around a 0-11 team in his first year to go a combined 13-10 in years three and four.

The Charlotte program is in its final year of Conference USA before moving to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) in 2023. OL coach Pete Rossomando will serve as interim head coach for the remaining four games this season. The 49ers visit Rice next weekend.
