Jerry Slocum, head coach at Youngstown State for the past 12 seasons, has decided to call it a career. The 65-year-old coach announced Tuesday that he would be retiring from his position.
Before Youngstown, Slocum had stints as a head coach at Div II Nyack College, NAIA Geneva College and Div II Gannon University. In total, Slocum has 723 wins as a collegiate head coach (142 at the Div I level, all at Youngstown).
In 2013, Slocum led the Penguins to the CIT – the first ever Division I postseason appearance for the program.
According to YSU President Jim Tressel, a national search to find Slocum’s replacement will begin immediately.
