- Wade played football at Morgan State in his hometown of Baltimore before starting a pro career
- Played three seasons as a DB in the NFL, one each with the Steelers, Redskins and Broncos
- Became the head basketball coach at Dunbar HS in Baltimore in 1975, leading the program for 11 years
- Went 341-25 overall, including a two-year stretch (1981-83) in which his team was 60-0
- Named Coach of the Year by USA Today in 1983
- Coached several future NBA players, including Reggie Lewis, Muggsy Bogues, Reggie Williams and David Wingate
