Chris Beard spurns UNLV, will be Texas Tech head coach
Chris Beard, who was hired by UNLV earlier this offseason following a run to the NCAA Tournament with Little Rock, will be the next head coach at Texas Tech. Beard was just confirmed as UNLV head coach back on April 8th, but when the Texas Tech job opened up all eyes immediately turned towards him.
After spending ten seasons on staff at Texas Tech, first as an assistant and then as associate head coach, Lubbock has become a special place for Beard. His three daughters all live within an hour of the city and that was reportedly a big factor in his decision.
Beard’s contract at UNLV had a $1 million buyout built in should he leave the school, though Texas Tech should have no problem paying that off after receiving a similar $900k buyout when previous head coach Tubby Smith left earlier in the week for Memphis.
