Utah State hires Danny Sprinkle from Montana State as Aggies’ new head coach

Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle is on the move after four successful seasons at his alma mater. Sprinkle was announced on Friday as the new head coach at Utah State.

“We are thrilled to announce Danny Sprinkle as Utah State’s new men’s basketball head coach,” AD Jerry Bovee said in the release. “Danny checked all the boxes we were looking for as he is driven, energetic and motivated. He is also an excellent coach and proven recruiter. His skill set aligns perfectly with our mission of developing outstanding student-athletes on and off the basketball court, competing for conference championships and advancing to postseason play.”

Sprinkle went 81-43 with the Bobcats, including a 52-18 record over the last two seasons, both of which featured trips to the NCAA Tournament. The 2022 trip was the program’s first since 1996, when Sprinkle was a starter for the team. That season (2021-22) he also led them to their first Big Sky title in twenty years.

“I am extremely excited and humbled to be a part of Utah State basketball and the unbelievable tradition created by all the former players and coaches,” Sprinkle said. “I want to thank President (Noelle) Cockett and Jerry Bovee for their belief in me. As for the Spectrum, it is one of the best home-court atmospheres in the country, and I can’t wait to work with The HURD and get that place rocking.”

Sprinkle will inherit an Aggies program coming off of a 26-win season and NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Previous head coach Ryan Odom departed last month to take over at VCU.
