- Named captain of his UMass Minutemen teams as both a junior and senior, where he played for head coach John Calipari
- After one year as a graduate assistant at UMass, Kellogg spent two seasons as an assistant under Jim Larrañaga at George Mason and then one at Youngstown State under John Robic
- Spent eight seasons as an assistant at Memphis working again under Calipari
- Left Memphis in 2008 to become the head coach at his alma mater, UMass
- Went 155-137 in nine seasons, leading the Minutemen to two NITs and one NCAA Tournament (2014)
- Fired in March 2017 after two straight seasons finishing with a losing record
- Hired in April 2017 as the new head coach at LIU (then LIU Brooklyn) out of the NEC
- Led the (then) Blackbirds to the 2018 NCAA Tournament by way of a NEC Tournament title in year one
- Fired in May 2022 after five seasons at the helm, finishing with a 74-74 record overall
- Returned to UMass in August 2022, this time as an assistant under new head coach Frank Martin
- Joined Greg McDermott‘s staff at Creighton in April 2023 as an assistant coach
