  • Born c. 1946/1947
  • Alma Mater: Illinois State University (BA, 1969)
  • Walters’ first coaching job was at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois; he went 202-56 in seven seasons there
  • Hired in 1978 to be the head coach at Evansville, then a D-I Independent one year away the start of the MCC (now the Horizon League)
    • Took over the reigns following the horrible December 1977 plane crash that killed the entire Evansville team and coaching staff
    • The NCAA relaxed its transfer rules to help Walters build a roster around transfers and freshman, and the Aces went 13-16 during the 1978-79 season; the program became a charter member of the MCC in 1979 and went 18-10 in that first year
    • By 1982, Walters had built a team that won both the MCC title and MCC Tournament and reached the D-I NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history
    • Walters went 114-87 overall in seven seasons at the helm
