  • Alma Mater: California State University, Stanislaus (BA, 1991) / Colorado State University (M.Ed, 1993)
  • Verlin began coaching immediately after graduating from Del Oro HS (Loomis, CA) in 1983, spending one year as the freshman coach at Del Oro alongside his twin brother, Ron Verlin
  • Spent one year as JV coach at Placer HS (Auburn, CA) before heading off to earn a bachelor’s from Cal State Stanislaus
  • First collegiate job was a one-year stint as an assistant at Columbia College (CA)
  • Spent one year – his first of two tenures – at Colorado State assisting head coach Stew Morrill
    • Would later return to Colorado State in 1994, spending another four seasons on the Rams’ staff under Morrill
    • In between stints at CSU, Verlin was an assistant for two seasons at Cal State Bakersfield under head coach Pat Douglass
  • Followed Morrill to Utah State in 1998, working with the Aggies’ program for the next ten seasons
    • USU went to the postseason nine times during that span, including five NCAA Tournament bids, and won four regular season conference titles
  • Hired as the head coach at Idaho in 2008, his first head coaching position at the NCAA Division I level
    • Won 172 games with the Vandals, who were members of the WAC for his first six seasons before joining the Big Sky
    • Led the program to the postseason five times, in which Verlin has a 3-5 record as head coach
    • Placed on paid administrative leave in May 2019 after Idaho received notice of possible NCAA violations, Verlin was fired with cause in June 2019
  • Along with his wife, Serena, has one son and one daughter
