- Joseph Patrick Douglass
- Born January 23, 1950
- Hometown: Knoxville, Tennessee / Barstow, California
- Alma Mater: University of the Pacific (BS, 1972)
- Born in Knoxville, Douglass’ family moved to Southern California when he was a teenager; Pat graduated from Kennedy HS (CA)
- Played for head coach Dick Edwards at Pacific, appearing with the Tigers in the 1971 Sweet Sixteen
- Started his coaching career at the high school level, spending two seasons at Dixon HS (CA) and four at Manteca HS (CA)
- Spent two years as the head coach at Columbia JC in Sonora, CA before moving up to the NCAA D-II level
- Was the head coach at Eastern Montana (now MSU-Billings) for six seasons, taking over for Edwards in 1981
- Went 119-58 overall, reaching four NCAA D-II Tournaments, including a trip to the Final Four in 1987
- Left for (then D-II) Cal State Bakersfield in 1987, kicking off an incredibly successful 10-season run as head coach
- Led the Roadrunners to the NCAA D-II Tournament every year, reaching at least the Final Four six times
- Won three NCAA D-II National Championships (1993, 1994, 1997) and in 1992-93 went a perfect 33-0 (14-0)
- Claimed six CCAA regular season titles, never losing more than 5 conference games in any season
- Won over 80% of his games at Bakersfield, leaving in 1997 with far more wins than anyone else in program history
- Led the Roadrunners to the NCAA D-II Tournament every year, reaching at least the Final Four six times
- Moved up to the Division I ranks in 1997, coaching at UC Irvine for the next 13 seasons
- Went 197-191 during his tenure, including back-to-back Big West titles in 2001 and 2002
- Improved the program from just 9 wins in his first season all the way up to a 25-5 record in year four
- Reached the NIT twice but failed to ever make it to the Division I NCAA Tournament
- Did not have his contract renewed in 2010 after going 26-37 in the previous two seasons combined
- Inducted into the CCAA Hall of Fame (c/o 2016) and Small College Basketball HOF (c/o 2018)
