- First coaching roles were at Kansas Wesleyan, where he went 7-6 in one season as basketball head coach
- Also coached the football team in 1914 and 1917, going 4-11 overall
- Hired in 1926 to be the head coach at his alma mater, leading the Tigers for 20 seasons
- Went 181-172 overall, winning three Big Six titles and reaching the NCAA Tournament in 1944
- Served as the President of the NABC for the 1937-38 season
- Also coached the Missouri golf team from 1926-41
