- Hometown: Mesa, Arizona
- Alma Mater: Arizona State University (BA, 2006)
- Played basketball at Mesquite HS (AZ) and MiraCosta College (AZ) before finishing his degree at Arizona State
- Began his coaching career at just 18 years old, forming and coaching an AAU team (Arizona Rage) of 16 and 17 year old players
- Spent one year as an assistant at Corona del Sol HS (AZ) and then joined the staff at Phoenix Junior College (AZ) while ASU
- Was the head coach at McClintock HS (AZ) for four years, getting the job when he was just 23 years old
- Became the youngest coach (26) to win a state title in Arizona, earning AZ 4A Coach of the Year honors
- After two years at Howard JC in Texas, Coburn was hired by Portland State head coach Tyler Geving as an assistant coach in 2013
- Worked under Geving for four years and then under Barret Perry for four, with the last three as associate head coach
- In April 2021, Coburn was promoted to head coach after Peery left for Texas Tech
