- Alma Mater: Coppin State University (BA, 2006)
- Graduated from Dobbins Technical HS in North Philadelphia before going on to Coppin State to play for head coach Fang Mitchell
- Was a star at CSU, winning back-to-back MEAC POY awards (1990-91) and leading the Eagles to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 1990
- Had his jersey #42 retired by Coppin in 1993; inducted into the MEAC HOF (2005) and the Coppin State Athletic HOF (2012)
- One brother, Stephen Stewart, was also a two-time MEAC POY at Coppin and later worked as a college assistant coach; both Stephen and Larry’s other brother Lynard, played professionally in Europe
- Spent 17 years playing professionally, including stints in the NBA with the Washington Bullets (coached by Wes Unseld and Jim Lynam) and Seattle SuperSonics (coached by George Karl) and in Europe (Spain, Turkey, Greece and France)
- Started his coaching career as an assistant under Darrell Brooks at D-II Bowie State (MD); spent six years there, including three as associate head coach
- Moved up to Division I ranks in 2015, joining Todd Bozeman‘s staff at Morgan State in a return to the MEAC
- Spent two seasons working under Jason Crafton at Maryland Eastern Shore, one as an assistant and one as associate head coach
- Returned to Morgan State in 2022, spending one season as an assistant there under head coach Kevin Broadus
- Hired in May 2023 to be the new head coach at his alma mater, Coppin State
