- Alma Mater: Juniata College (BS, 1974)
- Graduated from Calvert Hall College HS in Towson, MD and Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA
- Started out coaching and teaching back at Calvert Hill, serving as head basketball coach there from 1975-82
- Led his alma mater to a national high school championship in 1982 (34-0 record), garnering the attention of Loyola (MD)
- Hired to be the Loyola head coach in 1982, coaching the Greyhounds for the next seven seasons
- Went 85-116 overall, highlighted by four-straight 15+ win seasons; his 1983-84 team went 16-12, which was a 12-win improvement over the previous season, and Amatucci was named 1984 NEC COY
- Resigned in 1989 following two-straight losing seasons, amidst disagreements with the new AD and a NCAA probation
- Spent two years as the head coach at Annee Arundel CC (MD) and one as an assistant under Tom Finnegan at Washington College (MD)
- Returned to Calvert Hall for another tenure as head coach (1993-2007) and as the school’s counselor (1993-2021)
- Calvert Hall named its basketball court after Amatucci, as the school’s all-time winningest coach
- Won 389 games and coached 50+ future D-I college players, including future NBA players Juan Dixon, Duane Ferrell, Gary Neal and Jack McClinton
