Neal Brown fired after six seasons at West Virginia
West Virginia announced on Sunday that Neal Brown has been let go after six seasons as head football coach. Brown led the Mountaineers to a 9-4 (6-3) record last year to earn a contract extension through 2027, but the team regressed to 6-6 (5-4) this season. He will finish his tenure with an overall record of 37-35.
“Coach Brown is a great person, and he has served as a tremendous ambassador for West Virginia University,” AD Wren Baker said. “He led our storied program with class and integrity and always put in the hard work necessary to allow for success. We are grateful to Neal, his wife, Brooke, and their children for their contributions to our University, community and state, and we wish them the very best in their next endeavor.”
No word yet on who would coach the Mountaineers in a bowl game, but the release noted that a national search is already underway for the next permanent head coach.
