- Started his coaching career at the HS level with stops in both Lincoln and North Sacramento, California
- Hired in 1960 to be the head coach at San Francisco, leading the Dons for the next six seasons
- Went 114-51 and won three-straight WCC titles en route to three-straight Sweet Sixteen appearances (1963-65)
- Also served as the athletic director at San Francisco from 1961-71
- Inducted into the USF Athletic Hall of Fame in 1975
