Steve Payne resigns as Tennessee Tech head coach
Tennessee Tech head coach Steve Payne resigned on Sunday following a 8-23 (4-14) season in which the Golden Eagles finished in last place and failed to qualify for the Ohio Valley Tournament. Payne was the program’s head coach for eight seasons, during which time he went 118-134 overall.
Though the team battled injuries all season, the 2018-19 campaign marked the team’s fourth sub-.500 effort under Payne. Associate head coach Jason Taylor has been named acting head coach (Tech’s season is over) while the search commences.
