- Played football at what is now UMass, later starting his coaching career at the school
- Coached the UMass basketball team for the 1917-18 season, going 6-10
- At UConn, Dole coached the football, basketball and baseball teams
- In four seasons with the basketball program, Dole was 39-25 overall and won two New England titles
- His football teams were 36-39-14 overall (1923-33) and his baseball teams were 64-90-2 (1924-35)
- From 1932-48, he served as the men’s dean at the University; also started the school’s women’s basketball team
- During World War II, Dole served as a lieutenant commander in the United States Coast Guard
- Was commissioner of the New England Intercollegiate Football Association until 1979
- Passed away in 1997 in New Hampshire at the age of 104
