USC Upstate fires Kyle Perry and AD Julio Freire
USC Upstate fired both head men’s basketball coach Kyle Perry and athletic director Julio Freire, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Freire was hired as AD in July 2017 while Perry was only the Spartans’ head coach for one season.
Former Spartans head coach Eddie Payne resigned abruptly over health concerns and Perry, a long-time assistant of Payne’s, was named as the replacement. The team faltered in it’s lone season on Perry, finishing 7-25 overall after being eliminated from the A-Sun Tournament on Monday evening.
The program is preparing to move to the Big South Conference starting with the 2018-19 season.
