- Started his college career at Robert Morris but finished at Detroit Mercy under head coach Perry Watson
- Played with the Harlem Globetrotters for two seasons (2000-2001) after graduating from UDM
- Along with all past and current members of the Harlem Globetrotters, was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002
- Spent one season in the Detroit Pistons organization as Player Programs Coordinator
- Was an assistant at the Division I level for nine seasons, working under Watson at Detroit, Tim O’Shea at Ohio, Steve Hawkins at Western Michigan and then six seasons at Michigan under John Beilein
- Hired in April 2016 to return to his alma mater as the Detroit Mercy Titans’ head coach
- Fired just two years later after back-to-back 8-win seasons
- After a year away, Alexander joined Rodney Billups‘ staff at Denver as an assistant and spent two years with the program
- Along with his wife, Kesha, has one son
