- Alma Mater: Austin Peay University (BA, 2004 & MA, 2005)
- Started out at Three Rivers CC (MO) before transferring to Austin Peay, where he played two seasons for long-time Govs’ head coach Dave Loos
- Began his coaching career with a four-year stint at D-II Virginia State, assisting Tony Collins
- Joined Mike Dement‘s staff at UNC Greensboro as an assistant in 2009 and was quickly elevated to associate head coach; stayed on for a third year under Wes Miller
- Returned to his alma mater in 2012 and spent the next three years working under Loos
- Spent seven seasons (six as associate head coach) on staff at Missouri State, working under head coaches Paul Lusk and Dana Ford
- Hired in March 2022 as head coach at Northwestern State, becoming the first black head coach in program history
- Went 22-11 in his lone season (+13 wins from the year before) and reached the Southland Tournament title game
- In March 2023, Gipson left NW State to be the head coach at his alma mater, Austin Peay
