- Alma Mater: University of Kentucky (BA, 2001)
- Spent four years as a student assistant at Kentucky (1997-2001) under head coach Tubby Smith
- Worked at Louisville as a staff assistant for Rick Pitino from 2002-04 and as director of video operations from 2005-2007
- In between, McHale spent one year as Manhattan’s director of basketball operations under Bobby Gonzalez
- First full-time assistant position came in 2007 when he joined Kevin Willard‘s staff at Iona
- Followed Willard to Seton Hall in 2013, working on his staff for a total of six seasons
- Spent two seasons as an assistant under Richard Pitino at Minnesota before becoming EKU head coach in 2015
- Was 38-55 in three seasons at EKU before getting fired in February 2018
- After a year out of coaching, McHale was hired by Paul Weir in 2019 to be an assistant coach at New Mexico
- Reunited with Richard Pitino in 2021, spending one year as special assistant under the new Lobos’ head coach
- Along with his wife, Jackie, has two daughters
