- Started his college career playing at NDSCAS; later transferred as a student to North Dakota State, where he would earn his degree
- Returned to NDSCAS in 2002 to be an assistant for one season before becoming a graduate assistant for Tim Miles at North Dakota State in 2003
- Elevated by Miles to assistant coach in 2005 and then again to associate head coach when fellow Miles assistant Saul Phillips took over as head coach in 2007
- Was on staff for two Summit League regular season and Tournament titles, resulting in trips to the NCAAs in 2009 and 2014
- Was hired in April 2014 to be the Bison head coach, taking over the program after Phillips left for Ohio
- Swept the 2015 Summit League regular season and Tournament titles, earning conference COY honors and an NCAA bid
- Returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2019 by way of another Summit League Tournament crown
- Along with his wife, Stephanie, has four daughters
