VCU associate head coach Jeremy Ballard has been hired as the new head coach at FIU, per CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. Ballard returned to VCU a year ago after having previously worked there for three years under Shaka Smart.
This is the first head coaching shot for Ballard, an Atlanta native that has also coached at Pittsburgh, Illinois State, Tulsa and alma mater Colgate.
FIU parted ways with previous head coach Anthony Evans after five seasons, all with sub-.500 records. The Panthers program has been to the NCAA Tournament just once (1995) since starting competition in 1981.
