  • John Joseph Griffin Jr.
  • Born May 17, 1956
  • Alma Mater: Saint Joseph’s University (BA, 1978)
  • Played basketball for four seasons at Saint Joseph’s under Hawks’ head coach Harry Booth
  • Later returned to his alma mater as an assistant, spending one year each working under Jim Lynam and Jim Boyle
    • Part of two NCAA Tournaments as an assistant, including the Hawks’ 1981 Sweet Sixteen run
  • Spent four years as the head coach at Siena, going 70-44 overall and winning 21+ games twice
    • Named ECAC North (now America East) COY in 1985 after the Saints went 22-7 (12-4)
  • Left Siena in 1986 and worked in the private sector for some time before returning to coaching in 1990
  • Hired as the head coach at alma mater Saint Joe’s in 1990 and coached the Hawks for the next five years
    • Was 75-69 overall, but finished above .500 just twice, resulting in two NIT trips (1993 and 1995) but no NCAAs
  • Has two sons also in coaching, including John III who played at Bucknell and is currently the head coach there
