KT Turner hired as head coach at UT Arlington

As had been reported a week or so back, UT Arlington has hired KT Turner as its next head men’s basketball coach. Turner spent the past season at Kentucky and has significant experience coaching and recruiting in the state of Texas.

“KT distinguished himself from a tremendous candidate pool, and we are ecstatic to have him and his family join UTA,” said AD Jon Fagg in a statement. “KT will bring a fresh perspective and an exceptional overall pedigree embedded with deep Texas roots. He is a stalwart coach who is highly regarded and respected among his peers and former players. Additionally, KT is a wonderful person who was raised with a servant mindset and will work tirelessly to raise the profiles of our student-athletes.”

Prior to his arrival at UK in 2022, Turner spent time on staff at Oklahoma, Texas, SMU, Wichita State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northern Arizona and at the JUCO level in Texas, Oklahoma and his native Kansas. He played his college basketball at a few places, but spent the 2000-01 season playing for Eddie McCarter at UTA.

“It is an absolute privilege and honor to be named the head coach at UT Arlington, and I could not be more excited to join the Mavericks and hit the ground sprinting,” Turner said. “UTA has so much potential – which I’ve witnessed first-hand as a former player – and my staff and I will work expeditiously to put together a winning program on the court, in the classroom, throughout Arlington and beyond that everyone associate with UTA will be proud to call their own.”
