- Hometown: Manhattan, Kansas
- Alma Mater: Oklahoma City University (BA, 2003)
- Started his career at Hutchinson CC (KS), where he played two seasons (1997-99) for head coach Tim Jankovich
- He then played one season (2000-01) for Eddie McCarter at UT Arlington before transferring to NAIA Oklahoma City, where he helped the Stars win a Sooner Athletic Conference title in 2002
- Began coaching at the JUCO level, with stints as an assistant at Panola (TX), Redlands (OK), Cowley (KS) and back at Hutchinson (KS), as well as one season on Mike Adras’ staff at Northern Arizona
- Got his first D-I job in 2011, spending the season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi working as one of Willis Wilson‘s assistants
- Next up was a one-year stint on Gregg Marshall‘s staff at Wichita State, where he was a part of the Shockers’ magical run to the 2013 NCAA Final Four
- Turner spent seven seasons at SMU, as an assistant under Larry Brown (2013-16) and as associate HC to his former coach, Tim Jankovich (2016-20)
- Part of two NCAA Tournaments and one NIT appearance, a runner-up finish in 2014
- Spent one year each working as associate head coach at Texas (under Shaka Smart) and Oklahoma (under Porter Moser) before joining John Calipari‘s staff at Kentucky as an assistant coach in 2022
- In March 2023, Turner was hired to be the new head coach at UT Arlington, where he played more than 20 years prior
