Lindsey Hunter steps down as Mississippi Valley State head coach
After just three seasons, former NBA player and coach Lindsey Hunter has stepped down as head coach at Mississippi Valley State. Hunter was 7-75 overall and was placed on administrative leave with three games left in the season (reason not announced publicly).
“We’re grateful for all that Coach Hunter has given to MVSU and the Delta Devils men’s basketball program,” said MVSU President, Dr. Jerryl Briggs. “He has been truly committed to the program since the day he arrived and I am confident that he will continue finding ways to make an impact in athletics and the lives of others, and I truly wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
This was the first college head coaching job for Hunter, who played in the SWAC at Jackson State before spending 17 seasons in the NBA. He later served as an assistant with the Suns and Warriors, as well as at Buffalo, and was the interim head coach in Phoenix for 41 games in 2013.
