- Spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Miami Southridge HS (FL) from 2000-2002
- Next coaching roles were as an assistant at Division II Nova Southeastern and JUCO Miami Dade
- Has twelve years of Division I assistant coaching experience, working under Matt Doherty and Rex Walters (at FAU), Frank Haith (at Miami FL), Scott Cherry (at High Point), Richard Pitino (at FIU) and at Louisville under Rick Pitino
- As an assistant coach, Balado was a part of three NCAA Tournament teams (two vacated) and one NIT
- Hired in March 2017 to become the head coach at Arkansas State
