Michael Obrey Boynton, Jr.

Hometown: Brooklyn, New York
Alma Mater: University of South Carolina (BA, 2004)
Graduated from Bishop Loughlin HS in Brooklyn and went on to play at South Carolina under head coaches Eddie Fogler and Dave Odom
Started coaching right away as a grad manager at Furman under Larry Davis, then as an assistant under Buzz Peterson at Coastal Carolina and as Mike Young‘s associate head coach at Wofford
Returned to his alma mater in 2008, spending four seasons as an assistant under Darrin Horn and one more under Frank Martin
Joined Brad Underwood‘s staff at Stephen F. Austin in 2013, following Underwood to Oklahoma State in 2016
In March 2017, Boynton was promoted to replace Underwood as Oklahoma State head coach
- Led the Cowboys to the 2018 NIT after just missing a NCAA at-large bid; made the NCAA Tournament in 2021 as a 4-seed
- Boynton was given a 7-year contract extension in March 2021 that raised his salary to an average of $3 million per season
- Went 119-109 in seven seasons, with a 12-20 record in 2023-24, and was let go in March 2024
