Wes Flanigan fired after just two seasons at Little Rock

In a somewhat surprising move, Little Rock has fired head basketball coach Wes Flanigan after just two seasons. Flanigan was an assistant under previous head coach Chris Beard for one year and was promoted in 2016 when Beard left for Texas Tech.

On-court results have certainly dropped since Beard’s departure: the Trojans won the Sun Belt regular season and Tournament titles in 2015-16 and upset Purdue in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. However, in year one under Flanigan the team finished just 15-17 and regressed all the way to 7-25 this past season. Nonetheless, it is not often we see coaches dropped so soon after being hired.

“At the conclusion of each season I evaluate each of our programs,” athletic director Chasse Conque said in a statement. “Based on where we stand today, we felt our men’s basketball program needed a change in leadership.”
