Eastern Kentucky hires A.W. Hamilton to be head coach
NC State assistant and former Hargrave Military Academy head coach A.W. Hamilton has been tabbed as the new head coach at Eastern Kentucky.
Hamilton is a Georgetown, KY native, so the hiring marks a return to the Bluegrass State. Though he had only been at NC State for one season, his relationship with Wolfpack head coach Kevin Keatts go back to Hamilton’s playing days at Hargrave.
Hamilton had incredible success as Keatts’ successor as Hargrave head coach, winning the 2016 National Prep Championship in the midst of a two-year run in which his teams went 90-3.
“The fit is perfect for my family and me,” Hamilton said in a statement on Friday, “we look forward to building on everything EKU has to offer, both on and off the basketball court.”
Eastern Kentucky parted ways with former head coach Dan McHale in February after three seasons, all below .500. The Colonels previous head coach, Jeff Neubauer, led the team to two NCAA Tournaments, two CITs and a CBI in ten seasons.
