- First coaching position was at Canajoharie HS (NY), where he went 19-3 in his only season
- Returned to his alma mater – D-III Hamilton in Clinton, NY – as an assistant coach under Tom Murphy in 1987
- Also served as the junior varsity head coach during his two years on the staff, going 38-10 overall
- Joined Al Skinner‘s staff as a graduate assistant at Rhode Island in 1989, completing his MBA and getting promoted two full-time assistant two years later
- Followed Skinner to Boston College in 1997, spending four seasons as an assistant and five as associate head coach
- Left BC to take the head coaching position at Northeastern in 2006
- During his tenure at NU, the Huskies have been to two NCAA Tournaments, two NITs and one CBI
