- Born March 26, 1949
- Hometown: Concord, California
- Alma Mater: Pacific University (BA, 1972 & MA, 1985)
- After graduating from Clayton Valley HS (CA), Thomason played collegiately at Pacific under head coach Dick Edwards
- Earned All-WCC honors and played in the 1971 NCAA Tournament as a senior
- Started coaching right away, spending two years as an assistant at Stagg HS (CA)
- Was a high school head coach for eight seasons – three at Escalon HS (CA) and five at Turlock HS (CA)
- Won a California state title at Escalon in 1976, going 27-0 on the season
- Joined the college ranks in 1981, taking over as head coach at Columbia College in Sonora, CA
- Went 75-49 in four seasons and led the team to their first-ever conference title in 1985
- Moved on to Cal State Stanislaus in 1985, leading the Warriors to a 52-27 record over three seasons
- Returned to his alma mater in 1988, becoming the head coach of a Pacific Tigers that had won just 5 games the season prior
- Coached at Pacific for 25 years, winning 437 games in the process and appearing in eight postseason tournaments
- Retired in 2013 with the most wins in school history and the most wins of any Big West head coach
- Earned Big West COY honors five times, won six regular season titles, four conference tournaments and led the Tigers to five NCAA Tournaments
