- Hometown: Round Rock, Texas
- Alma Mater: University of Texas (BA, 2006)
- Graduated from Stony Point HS (TX) and then went to UT, where he was a student manager for Rick Barnes‘ program
- Became a graduate assistant in 2006, working with the Longhorns for a total of six seasons
- Crossed paths with a number of Texas greats, including Kevin Durant, LaMarcus Aldridge and P.J. Tucker
- Spent two seasons working as an assistant coach at Midland College (TX) before going back to Division I basketball
- Mudge was Jason Hooten‘s first hire at Sam Houston State in 2010, spending the next eleven seasons as an assistant with the Bearkats (plus two more as the associate head coach)
- Part of two Southland titles, two NITs, and four CITs during his tenure on staff; the Kats won 261 games
- In April 2023, Mudge was elevated to head coach just ahead of Sam Houston’s move to Conference USA
- In his first season, Mudge led the Bearkats to an outright CUSA regular season title; Mudge was named CUSA COY
